But it's a 501(c)(6) (business trade organization), which is not the same as the 501(c)(3) charitable non-profits you're used to. They don't escape any tax burden through this structure, their profits are simply taxed at the member level. (i.e. the teams).

This this this. It's really frustrating when I hear people bitch about this, I've no love for the NFL (the owners I mean) but it's dumb to criticize them for this.
